As promised from my earlier post on the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque
, below are some pictures relating to the mosque. As of today, I saw the scaff-folding around the mosque’s minaret. Sorry didnt have my camera, else I would take a pic. Enjoy…
The construction of the SOAS Mosque circa 1957-1958
This photo's title says 'Masjid SOAS open air'. I guess it means that the open area (now the Taman OAS) infront of the mosque. The buildings behind were shophouses along Jalan Sultan and Jalan Pemancha. Note the vehicles too. Interesting.
Centrepiece. The most photographed building in Brunei in 1974. Note that most of the villages (Kampong Ayer) around the mosque have dissapeared, mainly due to fire. To your right is where the 'Yayasan' is now.
As of 6 August 2008. The mosque with its glittering golden dome in the sunlight. The dome has been repaired since early this year and now the job is done in time for the mosque's golden anniversary. And somebody please fix the clock. It was before 8 a.m. when I took this pic. I commute almost daily in Bandar; I have never seen the clock showing the correct time.
Happy advance golden anniversary. May Allah bless Brunei Darussalam, amin.
