Paying for our future
If we pay a small bill now, future generations won’t have to pay a big one.
Bravo to NBT (Brunei) Sdn Bhd for being awarded the ISO 14001. The first I believe in Brunei. There’s this eye-catching ‘green’ centre-spread in today’s BB from NBT. I thought its in the company’s website and wanted to share here but there’s none. Anyway, the text in the advert from NBT said that:
If we all become environmentally friendly, Earth would still be able to sustain life in the future. At NBT, we have quietly been working to achieve ISO 14100, the international benchmark for sound environmental practices.
We do everything from sealing waste oil in drums for proper disposal, to reduce our use of water, electricity and other resources. What began in our service centres is now a company-wide policy. ISO 14100 is just the first step towards building a beautiful sustainable world for every living creature. And that include our children and hornbills.
Oh, they are, what the Malay proverb says: Diam-diam ubi berisi or (my friend love this) its direct translation, silent silent tapioca which actually means that you are wise and of those sorts in a silent way. (Cant think of its equal proverb in English). Of course, I would make a bang on such success as achieving an ISO is not an easy task.
So, a turn on the next page shows NBT’s business partners quickly congratulating the car company saying: ‘… we applaud your pioneering spirit. You are leading the way in corporate environmental responsibility. This is the beginning of building a sustainable world for all life on Earth.’
Signed off by 20 of NBT’s business partners.
So whats the hu-ha about ISO you asked?
ISO stands for the International Organization for Standardization, located in Geneva, Switzerland. ISO promotes the development and implementation of voluntary international standards, both for particular products and for environmental management issues. ISO 14000 refers to a series of voluntary standards in the environmental field under development by ISO. Included in the ISO 14000 series are the ISO 14001 EMS Standard and other standards in fields such as environmental auditing, environmental performance evaluation, environmental labeling, and life-cycle assessment. The EMS and auditing standards are now final. The others are in various stages of development.
