Scholarships

In Brunei, Dreams, Education, Media, News on November 14, 2008 at 11:02 am

I still think that we, Bruneians are blessed. We have among the best healthcare system in the region and free education. In education, many would have chosen to pay privately though I can’t say if this means that we are a rich lots as there are a number of education loans available.

Over the years, I have noticed on the increasing number of scholarships available right from the ‘O’-levels up to even PhDs. The new kids on the block in the past couple of years are the Ministry of Defence’s scholarships and the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. Apart from the locally-funded scholarships, Bruneians are also offered scholarships from other Governments, like the Japanese Government which have been funding Bruneians for the past 20 years. Then there’s also the prestigious Chevening Scholarships from the UK Government where an elite group of global Chevening scholars await those who are awarded the scholarships. Read more from this site as application is now open for next year’s session.

The US also grant its Fullbright Scholarship to Bruneians and almost each year, at least one Bruneian would go to the US for a post-graduate study there. Then there’s the Australian Government offer; Singapore’s … have I miss any?

Please correct me if I am wrong but I think Brunei may be the only country in the world whose students are spoilt with education allowances. I am not complaining or wet, hot towels will be thrown to me.  I am just really grateful for this and the many scholarships available. Alhamdullilah. If I have the opportunity I would like to further my studies till I cant study anymore. Yes, even to China.
